"I was drunk/stoned" is not an excuse. If anything, the drugs and alcohol just exposed what was already there, since they lowered his inhibitions and made him say what he really thinks.

Exactly. I can guarantee that I don't go off on an antisemitic or racist rant no matter how drunk or high I am. I don't believe that drugs or alcohol change someone's personality. All it does is reduce inhibition and show you and everyone the person you always are.

I've been ridiculously drunk, and said all sorts of things. I once spent a pleasant evening wasted out of my mind and talking with some guy about the urgent need for humanity to prepare to leave planet Earth in the next twenty years. (That was, BTW, about twenty years ago.)

Oddly, reservoirs of racism don't seem to surface.

When you're drunk, you say what you think.

If you know you think things like this, maybe it's not a good idea to get so drunk.
